Prototype to Low-Volume Production Model Design

BIELMEIER has experience with initial prototyping, taking a prototype to the next level, or high-volume design of your product. We can enhance existing designs or develop new systems and components. Design experience of ground, air, water and space robots and systems that have strict design requirements. Bielmeier excels at the design and development of small, lightweight, low-power mechanisms.

All prototype design models are created with design flexibility, revision incorporation, & rapid manufacturing in mind. Whether designing with metals, plastics, or composite materials, BIELMEIER is able to streamline the transition from prototype to low-volume production. Rely on BIELMEIER for overview models for trade study designs or point-of-departure graphics to detailed plastic mold and composite layup drawings.

For mid-volume operations, BIELMEIER can provide urethane cast molding drawings or 3D printing methods. Bielmeier has experience taking detector prototype to mid-volume production. For high-volume operations, BIELMEIER can provide molding and tooling drawing documentation. Bielmeier has experience designing a ground robot for high-volume assembly and manufacturing.

Designs are mechanically sound, ergonomic, and based on customer feedback. Experienced using Solidworks, ProE, & Unigraphics CAD software.

Finite Element Modeling & Impact Resistance Modeling

A decade of experience using finite element analysis (FEA) of composite and homogeneous materials for aerospace and military applications. Expert on design of micro-models that describe the architecture of woven fabrics and analyzed components on the NASA HELIOS Pathfinder HALE ROA, NASA Mars Flyer, & InstantEye UAV. FEA conducted at the assembly, component and material levels for predicting failure criteria & reducing component weight. FEA design for homogeneous, composite, & fabric materials. Designed flexible textile-based personal protection equipment (PPE) to resist puncture by penetrators ranging from knives to micro-needles. Conducted drop testing for electronic product. Doctoral dissertation developed a modeling method that utilized Digital Fabric Mechanical Analyzer (DFMA), a new FEA software, for application of measuring impact & puncture resistance of woven fabrics. The efficiency, stability & accuracy of DFMA were compared with traditional modeling software (ABAQUS). Leveraged cluster computing to increase model efficiency and wrote MATLAB script to visualize fiber movement during penetration with a micro-penetrator. Published journal articles on micro-model study of textiles resistance to micro-penetrators (mosquito proboscis & sewing needles). Experience using Solidworks, DFMA, ABAQUS, and NASTRAN FEA Software.
  • Modeling at the fiber, yarn & fabric level

  • FEA analysis for assessing component failure or optimizing design weight/strength

Ergonomic & Aesthetic Designs

Experienced developing systems and components that are functional, attractive & easy to operate. Designs merge electronic & mechanical requirements and are ready for high-volume manufacture.

BIELMEIER has developed handheld detectors & controllers that are lightweight, ergonomic, waterproof & drop-resistant. Designs integrated video display & light indicators allow for easy use. Designs focus on the end-user & incorporate feedback from prototype use. For the InstantEYE project, BIELMEIER designed a ground controller for covert control of a UAV. Thus, the design required operation of joysticks and buttons that were silent, waterproof, robust and able to be operated wearing tactical gloves. Lead designer, Bielmeier, has a background in industrial design and is an abstract painter.
